Introduction

This review is about a book I read House Arrest By K.A. Holt. This realistic fiction book is in verse, meaning that it is written in a similar format to a poem. This book is the court-appointed journal of a boy named Timothy who is under house arrest after stealing a wallet to buy his brother's medicine. This story follows his year of house arrest as he tries hard to take care of his brother while trying to redeem himself.

Story

This book is about a boy named Timothy who has been placed under a year-long house arrest for stealing a wallet and using it to buy his brother’s much-needed medicine. Along with the house arrest, he is to also fill out a court-ordered journal every day. His brother has a life-threatening condition that limits his ability to breathe, this further adds to Timothy’s worries. On top of that, his father left the family when Levi was just a few months old, forcing his mum to work for unreasonable amounts of time to provide for the family. This book follows Timothy’s journey through his path to redemption, with a surprising twist at the end.

Opinion

Though not drawn to books in verse or poetry, this book's storyline was very engaging. It had elements of humor, action, and emotional scenes. I would recommend this book to children who are 10–15 years old, though the older readers can enjoy it too. I rate this book a 5 star out of 5 because of its engaging storyline.
