Introduction
I just finished reading the book Wild River by Rodman Philbrick. It’s a great read in the Realistic Fiction genre that follows a boy named Daniel who is lost in the Montana wilderness during his white-water rafting trip when the local dam fails and the whole area floods. Daniel is stuck in the wilderness with other kids who were with him on the trip, but as the situation worsens and tensions start to form, Daniel has to keep the group together and survive. Read this book review to find out more about this book and what I think of it.
Story
This book starts off with Daniel and his tripmates on the bus to a river where they’ll go white-water rafting. After an disastrous turn of event where the local dam fails to hold and floods their whole camp, Daniel is lost in the wilderness with his group. The group starts to develop strong bonds but a few people start disagree and sow mistrust. Now Daniel has to find a way to get him and his friends out of the forest and to safety while keeping the group together.
Opinion
I like this book because it creates a dangerous environment in which Alyssa has to use quick thinking to get through. It’s also filled with danger and gives you a sense of how one would feel while lost in a forest. This book also shows that during harsh conditions, disagreements can start to form and divide the group. This is a great book for realistic fiction readers who read books about survival and living in the wilderness. I rate this book 4 stars because it’s filled with small but important details which show how it feels to live in the wilderness. It also recognizes that conflict can start between desperate people who are trying to survive.
