Angola is a country in southern Africa with Luanda as its capital. The country uses the flag of the MPLA, a socialist party in Angola which is the ruling party there. The flag consists of two equal horizontal bands of red and black with a yellow emblem in the centre. The red symbolises the Angolan devotion to socialism/communism, while the black represents the African people. The emblem in the centre is made up of a cogwheel, a machete, and a star in the corner. The cogwheel represents the industrial labourers and the machete symbolizes the agricultural workers. The star represents progress, and the emblem, on the whole, is a spin on the flag of the U.S.S.R.

Brazil

The Brazilian flag is made up of a green background with a yellow diamond in the centre. The diamond consists of a blue sphere with multiple stars of differing shapes on it. The sphere also reads “Ordem e Progresso,” which translates to “Order and Progress.” The green background symbolises the rainforests and jungles of the country, while the yellow diamond represents Brazil’s mineral wealth. The dark blue sphere represents the sky, and the stars are the constellations that represent Brazil’s states and provinces.

Turkey

The Turkish Flag consists of a red background with a crescent moon and star, both white. The red symbolizes the blood of the Turkish warriors who fought for the creation of the country after the First World War. The crescent moon and star symbolize many things, but mainly the country’s religious affiliation, Islam. The flag also has its origins in a battle in which Ottoman forces were victorious and saw the crescent moon reflected in the blood of their fallen enemies.

The United States

A well-known flag, The Flag of the US consists of a blue square in the top left corner, which has fifty white stars. The rest of the canvas contains an orienting pattern of 13 white and red stripes (7 red and 6 white). The stars signify the current fifty states in the US, with each being added as a new state is admitted to the Union. The thirteen stripes symbolize the original thirteen states that were part of the United States at its founding in 1776. The blue color is said to represent vigilance and justice, red for courage and sacrifice, and white for purity.
