This part will sum up how the war ended and The Treaty Of Versailles
New Weapons!
So now that everyone is stuck in trench warfare, everyone is trying to find new and creative ways to kill each other. Many new technologies are introduced to the war, such as Zeppelin raids over Britain and Germany using Chlorine Gas to clear trenches. Aerial Combat was also introduced; planes were originally used to scout over enemy territories, then to bomb. And the Tank was also used for the first time by Britain in this war, in fact, there was a battle where an entire German Army surrendered to an immobilized tank because they were so frightened at the sight of the machines.
War Outside Europe
The war wasn’t just limited to Europe, though. British troops were advancing into Ottoman territory via Egypt and Kuwait, and Russian troops were fighting The Turks in the north. Germany’s African colonies were quickly taken while Japan joined the war and nabbed all the pacific islands.
Russia Drops Out
Russia was going through riots, mainly because of discontent with the war and lack of food. Riots soon turned into a revolution, the monarchy was abolished, and Russia became a republic. This new republic did not end the war with The Central Powers because it didn’t want to betray its allies. This wouldn’t be the case for long, though, because Russia soon underwent a second communist revolution that created a new communist government that would make peace with The Central Powers and ceded many lands.
The U.S.A Joins
Germany had a doctrine of ‘Unrestricted Submarine Warfare’ attacking all shipping to Britain. This was an attempt to starve Britain of supplies. German submarines (or U-Boats) attacked tons of American shipping and sunk multiple American civilian ships. One such ship was The Lusitania, A British civilian ship that was sunk by a German U-Boat. The ship had 128 American citizens, which angered the American Government. The U.S.A was finally pushed into declaring war on Germany because of The Zimmerman Telegram, a message to Mexico that prompted it to invade The United States to delay its entry into the European war.
The War Ends
With Austria-Hungary falling apart, The Allies pushed into Ottoman territory while inciting rebellions from the native Arab population and the British blockade of Germany, which starved it of food for its people. The Central Powers are on the verge of losing, and they know it, so when The U.S. declares war, Germany signs an armistice.
The Treaty Of Versailles makes Germany lose land, most of it to the newly formed Poland, and had to severely restrict its army and couldn’t have an airforce. It also had to pay close-to-impossible war reparations to the allies. Austria-Hungary and The Ottoman Empire were dismantled. The Turks refused to accept the terms and fought another war which gave Turkey its modern borders. The First World War brought about the destruction of four major empires, The Russian, German, Austro-Hungarian, and Ottoman, and created new nations. But most importantly, the war created the situation in Germany where the Nazis could rise to power and incite The Second World War.
